Synopsis
"Ryan's Hope" was a daytime soap opera set in Riverside on the upper West Side of Manhattan, The series centred mostly on the working class Ryan's, an Irish-American family headed by Maeve and Johnny Ryan (a former boxer).
The Ryan's had five children - Frank (a politician), Patrick (a doctor), Mary (a reporter), Siobhan (a cop) and Kathleen (a housewife).
The main location for goings-on during the 60 minute episodes was Ryan's Bar, and other pivotal characters included the Ryan's best friends, the Coleridges, Bob Reid and a reporter named Jack Fenelli.
Four members of the original cast remained with the show throughout its run: Helen Gallagher, Bernard Barrow, Ron Hale and Michael Levin. The show won two Emmys (1977 and 1979) for best daytime drama series.
(Synopsis from nostalgiacentral.com)Ron appeared in two episodes which originally aired on Monday, July 9, and Tuesday, July 10, 1979. He played the role of Dr Bernie Marx, a new Jewish neurology resident at the hospital.
Maeve Ryan is deeply upset by her son Pat's relationship with Nancy Feldman, because Nancy is Jewish, and Maeve, a staunch Catholic, fears for the immortal souls of any grandchildren that might come from the union.
Anxious to get back in Maeve's good books, Delia plans to try and break up her ex-husband's relationship with Nancy, and when she encounters the hospital's new Jewish resident, Dr Marx, Delia decides he is the man for Nancy and plots to get them together. But when Delia eventually orchestrates a meeting between Bernie and Nancy she is shocked to discover they are cousins, so Delia's plan is shattered, and Dr Bernie Marx fades into oblivion, thus ending Ron's brief role in the series.
