October 12, 2006:
A very favourable preview of the XBOX video game, "JUSTICE LEAGUE HEROES," (in which Ron provides the voice of Batman) can be found at the Gamespy website. An in-depth description is given by Gerald Villoria who recently had the opportunity to play the near-final version of the game, which is due for release on October 17.

Extract from preview: The basic plot centers on the Justice League as they foil Brainiac's plot to destroy humanity. From the in-game cinematic sequences I was able to watch, it was made clear that this isn't the happy-go-lucky team you may remember from 'Super Friends.' There's definite tension between characters, especially wherever Batman is involved, as revealed when he shrugs off Superman's greeting, stating that he never asked for any help against a robot invasion on Metropolis, with a delivery that absolutely drips with venom.

July 20, 2006: Jason Ades, producer of the "JUSTICE LEAGUE HEROES," video game, spoke with Comic Book Resources recently, and here's what he had to say about Ron voicing the character of Batman.

"I think Batman and Superman were the most challenging characters to cast. Everyone has a voice in their head as to what Batman should sound like. And it's usually Kevin Conroy or Christian Bale. Since we were wiping the slate clean for this game I had the task of finding the right voice and performance which could both match people's expectations as well as bring something new to the role. Ron Perlman as Batman was perfect. I remember watching 'Teen Titans' and listening to Slade and thinking, this guy would be the perfect Batman.Well, that and the fact that he's great in everything he does."

May 25, 2006:
Bill Harris of the Toronto Sun, says the best part of the first hour of Stephen King's "DESPERATION" is the creepy portrayal of a bad cop by veteran actor Ron Perlman.

Harris comments that "the early scenes in "DESPERATION" are appropriately creepy, thanks to veteran actor Ron Perlman's portrayal of a cop gone bad, spiritually and physically." He goes on to say, "Perlman had a heart of gold back when he was the "beast" to Linda Hamilton's "beauty" in a 1980s TV series. But he has no such heart in "DESPERATION" -- let's just say he plays crazy really, really well. Unfortunately for the viewers, Perlman's character departs about halfway through for reasons we won't get into, since it would reveal too much of the plot."

Harris' verdict is that the film is fairly decent overall, but advises that if you're going to watch it, don't miss the beginning because that's where most of the chills are.

It seems the ABC Network has done the dirty on Stephen King. They changed the air date of "DESPERATION" from May 18 to May 23 because they said a Tuesday night was a better viewing night for the movie, and yet what they've actually done is pitch it against the finals of "American Idol!" In his review of the "Teen Titans" DVD for IGN.com, Filip Vukcevic gives Ron a special commendation for his role as Slade. Vukcevic says:

"The voice acting is excellent all around. From the main cast to the guest characters, such as Wil Wheaton playing Aqualad in Deep Six, each actor really makes his or her own character stand out. Special commendation must go to Ron Perlman for bringing the Titans' main villain, Slade, to life with such a sinister yet calm performance."

March 22, 2006: The March 27 - April 2 issue of the US TV Guide includes the following article on "Desperation."

Stephen King's "Desperation." Here's a shocker:
ABC's latest adaptation off a Stephen King novel features another creepy battle between good and evil. This time the setting is the isolated town of Desperation, Nevada, where an ancient body-hopping demon named Tak is butchering anyone in his path. In Stephen King's "Desperation," airing Thursday, May 18, Ron Perlman plays the unfortunate cop who becomes possessed by Tak, and only a motley crew of travelers can stop the demon. They include a burned-out writer (Tom Skerritt), his aide (Steven Weber), a young wife (Annabeth Gish) and a devoutly religious 11-year-old boy (Shane Haboucha). "It's incredibly scary," says executive producer Mark Sennet. "When Gish's character stumbles across a gory pile of Tak's victims, "her scream is as good as Jamie Lee Curtis'."

Ron told SCI FI Wire that the Hellboy sequel has a working title, "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army," and he's hopeful it will go into production later this year.

Ron was promoting the Stephen King movie, "Desperation," which will air on the ABC network on the 18th of May. Here's what he had to say about "Hellboy II."

"I think that that's an invention based on a number of different things that have appeared in other comic books. But basically the idea for [Hellboy 2] was something that was hatched by [Hellboy comic-book creator] Mike Mignola, with [Hellboy writer-director] Guillermo [del Toro] sitting alongside of him. And then Guillermo, of course, did all of the writing. But, you know, the story was Mignola."

Ron added: "It's a compendium of a lot of elements that they were not able to address in the first one, because the first one was kind of a slave to the backstory and who Hellboy is, how we come to find him, etc., etc. Now they can kind of branch out a little bit and get funky with it and hit some of the other colors that existed in some of the other comic books."

A DVD review of "Missing in America" by Renee Vorbeck describes the movie as a good heart-felt film that brings you to tears, but also has lots of lighthearted moments. Of Ron's performance Vorbeck says:

"Ron Perlman, as Red, was an ex-vet who could not talk but through body language spoke volumes. In the movie, he adds the element of hatred and that is always not well received. As I watched the film, I thought, “if only he could talk”. Then again, if he could talk, would he have brought home the drama?"
