August, 2003. From Daily Variety 8/6/03 - "Hellboy Moved Up."

Revolution Studios has moved up the release of its comicbook actioner "Hellboy," leaving its Memorial Day weekend berth for a less-competitive April 2 slot. "Hellboy," directed by "Blade II's" Guillermo del Toro, was originally set to open against DreamWorks' "Shrek 2."

The two weekends before Memorial Day have Universal's "Van Helsing," Warner Bros.' "Troy" and Paramount's "The World of Tomorrow" hitting multiplexes, while the weekend after the holiday has Fox's "The Day After Tomorrow."

Revolution is aiming to give "Hellboy" more of a window to cash in among the pic's core sci-fi, horror and fantasy fans, as well as build awareness among broader audiences. Picture stars Ron Perlman as a demon conjured up by the Nazis during World War II who opts to serve the cause of good rather than of evil.

New release date now pits it against DreamWorks' comedy "Envy," Paramount thriller "The Blackout Murders," Universal's "Two Brothers" and Fox's children's film "Mission Without Permission." April has already proved a winning month for Revolution, which scored last spring with "Anger Management," originally a summer title.

"When you look at what's coming out around Memorial Day, there are some very big pictures," Revolution partner Tom Sherak said. "We figured we'd be much better off coming out earlier with a movie that we think will be the next big comic book movie. Whenever you can be the first, be the first."

April 21, 2003. From Daily Variety.

Stars Enlisted for "Crime." Activision has loaded the voice cast of its "TrueCrime: Streets of L.A." videogame with big Hollywood guns, including Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Michael Madsen, Ron Perlman, Michelle Rodriguez, Russell Wong, CCH Pounder, James Hong and Mako.

"When we wrote the game's characters, we wrote them after characters we'd seen in various movies," said executive producer Chris Archer. "We wanted to get that Hong Kong cinema-meets-American movies feel. We built the cast list based on that inspiration." Indeed, for an original property - rather than a title licensed from an existing film - the game may well have the largest "name" voice cast in recent memory.

Wong is voicing the game's protagonist, a disgraced cop trying to reclaim his reputation while tracking down a group of criminals in Los Angeles. A player's outcome depends on how well Wong's character succeeds in various scenes of what Activision calls a hybird "driving/fighting/shooting" game. A notable feature is a digitally recreated whopping 220 square miles of Los Angeles, Santa Monica and nearby towns.

The game is scheduled for a fall 2003 release, though Activision still hasn't picked a specific date.
