PRESS RELEASE FROM PRODUCTION COMPANY (March 2005)

Hellboy in
"The Last Winter"

Glass Eye Pix is pleased to announce that as of day 13 production on The Last Winter continues in the Arctic region of Iceland, despite subzero temperatures, blizzards, un-seasonal rain, winds of 40 knots and a lost negative only just recovered.

The Last Winter is the new project from writer-director Larry Fessenden. The film is a supernatural thriller produced by Antidote Films' Jeff Levy-Hinte (Thirteen, Laurel Canyon, High Art) and Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix (The Roost, The Off Season). Fessenden's past directing credits include No Telling, Habit, and Wendigo. He penned The Last Winter with Robert Leaver.

The film boasts Fessenden's largest budget to date and started production early March in Iceland in partnership with Zic Zac Films (Nói albínói). Fessenden is very pleased to be working with a knockout ensemble of actors headed by Ron Perlman (Hellboy, City of Lost Children, Blade 2), James Le Gros (Near Dark, Phantasm 2) and Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights, The Brothers McMullen). Additional cast includes Kevin Corrigan, Jamie Harrold, and Pato Hoffman, Zach Gilford, and Joanne Shenandoah.

The story takes place in the Artic tundra of Northern Alaska, where an advanced team working for a petroleum company is engaged in a massive project to exploit the oil resources of the pristine land. After one crew member is found dead, a disorientation slowly claims the sanity of the other team members as each of them succumbs to a mysterious fear.

Says Fessenden: "In the time-honored tradition of horror films, The Last Winter was written as a cautionary fiction, but with recent events it has become increasingly aligned with fact."

Our sincere thanks to writer/director Mr Larry Fessenden for this information.

From the San Francisco Bay Guardian Online. (August 22, 2007)

"The Last Winter"
Global warming has provided an agenda for various cautionary documentaries, nature flicks, and penguin-centric cartoons. This latest by underappreciated genre specialist Larry Fessenden (Habit, Wendigo) puts it where it really belongs: in a horror movie. James LeGros and Ron Perlman lead an advance team planning oil drills in pristine Arctic Alaska. Cabin fever, the supernatural, and perhaps a fed-up Mother Nature fast decimate these human intruders. Recommended for those who like their horror ambiguous and psychologically fraught. (Sept. 28)
