Plot Summary

Evil Krank is the result of an experiment that went wrong. He's aging before his time because he doesn't have the ability to dream. He hopes to stop this premature aging by kidnapping small children from a harbour town and trying to steal their dreams. Krank is in league with a band of henchmen called Cyclopes who steal the children and bring them to Krank's fortress in an off-shore oil rig which can only be reached by negotiating a hazardous under-water mine field. Krank's fellow companions include six identical clones, their dwarf mother, and a live brain in a tank, called Irvin. Pitted against Krank is One, a simple-minded carnival strongman whose adopted little brother, Denree, has been kidnapped by the Cyclops and taken to Krank's stronghold out in the ocean. One is befriended by a young street urchin named Miette, and together they set out on a dangerous quest to rescue One's 'little brother.'

Trivia

To achieve the slightly skewed color scheme of the movie, the actors were made up in white face and the color palette corrected until they were flesh-toned.

The Octopus (Siamese twins) are joined at the leg. A prosthetic third leg was designed and fitted to the actresses, but they could not move while wearing it. This is why the Octupus sisters do not move in any shot.

During filming, One (Ron Perlman) was bitten by the dog with the pulley and Miette (Judith Vittet) was bitten by the mouse with the magnet.

Ron Perlman doesn't speak French and was the only American on set. But he learned all of his lines, and delivered them flawlessly.
